Last week, Xiaomi had introduced the Redmi 4 phone. The phone is the replacement to Redmi 3s, a budget phone which Xiaomi launched last year.

Recently, Xiaomi announced that it sold 3.4+ million units of Redmi 3S. 3s is a massive hit but Xiaomi isn’t selling the phone anymore because the Chinese firm has unleashed the Redmi 4 phone.

XR4 is thicker and heavier than Redmi 3S, but it has new features and latest hardware.

OS, GPU, and display

Xiaomi Redmi 4 runs on MIUI 8 (Android M ROM). Xiaomi is working on Android Nougat ROM. The phone may get the Android N update by the end of this year.

Redmi 4 comes with the same Adreno 505 GPU as 3S. Hence, the gaming experience on the two phones will be the same.

Redmi 4 has a brighter display as compared to Redmi 3s. It also offers 2.5D glass and Corning Gorilla glass protection. The screen size and resolution are same as the 3S i.e. 5.0-inch and 1280 x 720 pixels.

The handset provides reading mode feature which makes the display eye-friendly during the nighttime by reducing the blue light rays intensity.

Processor

The Xiaomi phone features the SD 435 Qualcomm SoC. Apart from the clock speed, 4G modem, and RAM speed, there is no major difference between the two Qualcomm processors. The two SoCs are based on 28nm technology and have eight cores.

SD 435 powered phones have download speeds of 300 Mbps, thanks to the latest X9 LTE modem. SD 430 SoC packed mobiles have a peak downlink speed of 150 Mbps. They have X6 modem. For more information on the two processors, please go through the Snapdragon SoC comparison table.

Redmi 4 is enabled with VoLTE support.
