Earlier this week, HMD Global had introduced the Nokia 1 smartphone in India. N1 is the most affordable touchscreen 4G smartphone that Nokia has launched after HMD’s acquisition. The Finnish MNC had launched the entry-level 3310 phone last year for Rs 3299. 3300 is the company’s cheapest handset.
Nokia 1 is a 5500 Rs phone with 4.5-inch touchscreen FWVGA display. It ships with 8GB storage memory and has 1GB RAM. The mobile supports 128GB MicroSD cards.
Nokia 1 has an ordinary design. Even Redmi 1S, Xiaomi’s first phone for the Indian markets looks better than N1. The mobile has curved edges and Nokia logo on its backside. It carries a 2150 mAh battery. It has a 2MP front and a 5MP back camera.
Nokia 1 is an Android Go Edition smartphone. Android GO is an OS based on Android Oreo that has been designed for low-end phones.
Google has launched a bunch of apps for Android Go platform. Google Go and YouTube Go are the company’s most popular applications. Many companies are following Google by publishing lightweight variants of their popular apps. A few days back, Amazon had launched Kindle Lite app.
Is Android Go platform ideal for Indian markets?
Frankly speaking, India is a different market right now than it was in the late 2000s. Mobile data tariff has declined by over 90% and the phones with good hardware are available for purchase within 5000 to 10000. Xiaomi has bought a revolution in the phone markets. Jio is single-handedly responsible for the sharp fall in mobile data plans.
If you spend 5000 INR, you can watch HD quality videos on YouTube without changing the YouTube video settings.
Nokia 1 would have a great phone it was priced below 4000. It might work in countries where Xiaomi doesn’t operate. The offline smartphone market is dominated by Samsung and domestic Indian firms i.e. Micromax, Intex, Lava, etc. India might not be the right market for Nokia 1.
Which is the best phone under 6000? Xiaomi Redmi 5A is the top low budget mobile right now. Xiaomi has sold over 2 million units of this handset. 5A is available for purchase on Flipkart. To buy 5A, you must participate in flash sales. Unfortunately, the handset gets out of stock within few minutes.
