If you are not completely satisfied with the inbuilt features of Windows OS and want to add extra functionalities to OS with third-party software, download and install Raimeter, a free and open source desktop customization software that allows users to add new features to their PC quickly with skins.
DeviantArt is the home to the best Rainmeter skins, the most important module of this program. Without it, the widgets won’t work. Windows 8.1 and later OS don’t support widgets. If you have installed Rainmeter, you’ll not miss the widgets.
With this desktop customization program, you can add the below widgets to your desktop:
RSS Reader: Want to get latest updates from your favorite news website? Simply download a skin which supports this widget.
Weather: Want to know the local weather information? Add the weather widget to the desktop and configure it to show climate details of your place.
Resource Monitor: With this widget, the user can get real-time information on the system resources i.e. RAM, CPU, Network activity, and system page file.
Notes: Some Rainmeter skins support sticky notes. If you don’t remember tasks, then make sure that you use a skin that packs a notes module.
Music Player Controls: With this widget, you’ll be able to control the playback of music files saved on the hard disk drive of your computer.
Gallery: This widget allows you to see a slideshow of images stored in the My Pictures folder in Windows OS.
Skins have their predefined layouts which will automatically align the widgets on the desktop. Users are allowed to edit their configuration files. They can also create skins and share it with other users.
Rainmeter is easy to use desktop enhancement tool. When it has been installed, the program will load the default skin after which you’ll see 2 to 3 widgets on your desktop. If the skin supports color customization, you’ll be able to change the color of the widget’s interface.
Rainmeter can be configured to start when Windows OS boots.
The latest version of Rainmeter will be out soon. Below are the new features that you’ll find in the newest release of the free desktop customizer tool.
Rainmeter will be using latest graphics engines that are found only in modern operating systems. Hence, this application will now support only the Windows 7 and higher OS. Win Vista and XP users will have to use earlier versions of Rainmeter.
The external plugins that were shipped along with the previous release of Rainmeter will no longer be available. Rainmeter 4.0 has internal measures that have been introduced as a replacement to the external plugins. In other words, the plugins have been converted to internal measures.
Version 4.0 (Beta Release) is available for download on the official website of Rainmeter. If you’re switching from version 3.3 to 4.0, you’ll notice a significant improvement in the performance. You can use this program on computers running on Windows 10, 7 (SP1), 8.1, and 8 OS.
