Pepsico, one of the largest beverages and snack manufacturer is willing to sell its product online in India. Don’t be too excited as it wouldn’t be selling 5 or 10 rs priced Pepsi can or Lays chip online. In an interview with the leading news paper Economic Times, one of the top marketing executive of Pepsico has announced that the firm is planning to bring premium fruit beverages and snacks to India.

Instead of selling its imported products in local retail stores, Pepscio will list its products on eCommerce platforms. The plan is excellent as most visitors to eCommerce sites are middle/upper class people.

The premium Pepsico products will be initially sold online. They might be available in Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh and other major retail stores too. I’m a common man nor I’ve visited any other country. Thus I’m not aware of any premium beverage or snack sold by Pepsico. But this wouldn’t stop me from trying them out. Please visit this Wikipedia page for more info on Pepsico’s products.

There are some eCommerce sites that are selling beverages and grocery products online but they offer their services only in selected cities. BigBasket, being one of them is active only in a handful of cities. It would be interesting to see what eCommerce site Pepscio partners with.

Amazon and Snapdeal are being selling grocery items since several months. Both these platforms have a large customer base. Flipkart has a very strong presence in the the consumer-electronics market.

Flipkart might expand its online business by selling fast moving consumer goods too. Economic Times claims that the online FMCG sales in India will reach around 34.9 billion dollars by the end of 2020. Board members of most eCommerce platforms in India might be aware of this fact.

Anyways, what do you think about this news? Will you buy premium juices and snacks online? Please Share your thoughts!
