With 3G, using the internet can be fun as you are able to enjoy videos, download any file or play games without too much of connection delays. Thanks to the development of 4G technology that third generation internet activation charges have fallen. In India, 3G internet is being proffered over GPRS, 2G connection as many telecom operators have slashed their tariff.

Faster internet connection always has an edge over 2G connections as your online work is done faster. If you have plans to activate the super fast internet connection then you’ll need to check out the 3G plans and choose the best one that meets your requirements.

Although people are well aware of the third generation mobile technology, there are a lot of people who don’t know the trick or the steps to activate 3G service on their UMTS/WCDMA network-enabled mobile phone. This post is for such people as today we’ll be sharing the steps to activate 3G in Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and Tata Docomo

Activate 3G on Vodafone device:

Dial *111# USSD code to open the menu as you see in the below screenshot.

Now enter 6 in the text field, click on the send button and select any plan of your choice.

For Airtel –

  • Send a 3G message to the number 121. In response, the server will send you a message to confirm the activation. You’ll now need to confirm your service activation by replying with 1.
  • or if you’re not comfortable with SMS based activation method, simply call 12134 and follow the instructions.

For Idea connection:-

  • Simply send an ACT3G SMS to the number 12345.

For TATA Docomo:-

  • Send 3Glife message to 53333

Once you send a message to activate the service, you’ll receive the settings. You’ll need to save the settings before you start using superfast internet on your mobile phone. So make sure that you save the settings and restart your smartphone.

You won’t be able to use 3G if your handset or SIM card doesn’t support it. To check whether this network is supported by your device, go to mobile networks menu from settings interface, select the SIM card and visit the mobile network settings. Now tap on use only 3g networks. If your SIM doesn’t support 3G, the OS will disable the card.

    Most networks in Ghana support automatic connections though and the best when it comes to data is Airtel-Ghana.

    Thanks for the info Pramod. Vodafone 3G connection is too costly. Its better to use Tata Docomo. I keep a spare card of Uninor too. But do they have 3G internet service?
