After launching a plethora of apps on the Google Play Store and cheap data services in India, RJIL is all set to introduce a taxi service called JIO Cabs. According to rumors, Reliance may offer its JIO Cabs service to people residing in Mumbai and Chennai within a few months from now.
Reliance industries are in the process of creating a fleet of cars which comprises vehicles from Mahindra and Hyundai. JIO might hire drivers for its fleet of cars. In addition to this, the firm may allow third-party car owners to join JIO cabs.
Reliance may allow users to book a taxi with the Android or IOS app. The application may have similar features as the Uber and OLA apps. Reliance may integrate it with the JIO Money wallet application.
JIO cabs may turn out to be a profitable venture for Reliance industries considering the fact that it owns the largest private sector petroleum companies in India and it has set up 100s of petrol pumps in several cities.
The JIO Cabs might pose a serious threat to OLA and Uber cabs, etc. Uber is active in many countries and it’s a cash rich startup. The current valuation of the company is $50 billion. But, it has been reporting losses every year.
OLA cabs haven’t raised any funds in recent times. Like many other startups in India, OLA has reported heavy losses last year.
Will JIO cabs introduce free offers?
No, the tariffs might be lower as compared to OLA and Uber.
When will Reliance launch JIO cabs?
Leading newspaper Economic Times reports that Reliance may roll out the taxi service in the two cities i.e. Mumbai and Chennai by Q3 this year.
If things don’t go as planned, Reliance may push the launch date to Q4.
A few days back, the chairman of RJIL announced the end of the Happy New Offer. He also announced the JIO Prime offer that provides 30GB data for 303 INR.
JIO has launched plans for every budget. Hence, it is unlikely that people may switch to another operator from JIO.
The subscriber base of JIO might increase because of the JIO Prime membership program. The Chairman may hold another meeting in March or April and announce the launch of the Reliance taxi service.
