Apple Inc had earlier announced that it would allow developers to publish their keyboard apps on its app store. After several months of the announcement, iTunes is all set to host popkey – the first 3rd party keyboard for your iPod, iPhone, and iPad device.

Instead of numbers or alphabets, popkey displays 100’s of animated GIF files to you. The user has to tap on the displayed image, and the app will request Apple’s iMessage service to load it on your behalf just like a new tab gets opened in your browser when you click on any hyperlink in a web page. Now you’ll be able to send a picture instead of words or a paragraph to any person in your contact list.

PopKey Keyboard app for IOSIf you don’t find a relevant image, you can make use of this software’s category listing. Popkey keyboard app lets you upload your GIF pics. It also allows you to bookmark them. It can display recently used images too.

The idea is interesting, but it can confuse people who are not used to send stickers, smileys or other pictures to their friends via WhatsApp or another messaging app.

At certain times, you may have to stress your brain hard to choose a gif. Popkey will be first made available for IOS 8.0 users. It is expected to be there on Google Play store too. This software cannot be downloaded or installed as it has not been published yet.
