When Narendra Modi was contesting for the Lok sabha elections, he had announced the digital India program in which he emphasized on offering cheap or free Internet access to the Indian citizens through Government-owned ISPs and Telecom companies. It looks like Modi’s dream would soon turn out to be a reality. Government owned BSNL aka Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited has announced that it would offer free WiFi services in more than 2400 cities across India.
Some cities where the services would be made available are Delhi, Surat, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Pune, Jaipur, Hyderabad, etc. To make this happen, the company has decided to invest more than a billion dollars.
BSNL has also made clear that a Wi-Fi user will be able to enjoy free Internet for a limited period. Once the user’s computer/handset has reached the free data transfer limit, he’ll have to recharge his BSNL WiFi account for further uninterrupted Internet access.
To offer free Internet service, BSNL will install more than 40k WiFi systems that support hotspot technology. The Internet speed on BSNL’s free WiFI network would be within 2 MBPS to 10 MBPS. This is a good news for the public.
This project will not only improve BSNL’s customer base and revenue, but it will also give high-speed Internet access to the users.
Well, this is not the only good news BSNL has to offer. Just like all other telecom operators, BSNL wants to improve its customer base in the country. To do this, it has announced a special offer for its new customers.
Users who activate a new BSNL broadband or landline connection will get a flat 50% off on installation charges. This offer is valid for just 3 months or 90 days. BSNL’s broadband and landline plans are good. Please visit your nearest BSNL centre for more information.
