Shocked, aren’t you? Canonical LTD–The developer and the distributor of Ubuntu O.S is working on a Smartphone that has a storage capacity of 128 GB (128 GB Solid state disk storage), 4 GB RAM and would give its users an option to run an either of the company’s Linux or the Android O.S with its boot menu.
Linux O.S was derived from the Unix O.S and the most popular (as of now) mobile operating system –The Android has been derived from Linux. Canonical LTD have been successful in raising over 6mn US $ to make this Smartphone available to the public for around 725 to 900$ (around 50000 Rs). Now let’s see the key specifications of this powerful Smartphone:-
Ubuntu EDGE Full Specifications and Features-
Operating Systems:- Ubuntu and The Latest Android O.S, you’ll be to choose either of the two O.S when you’ll switch on this device. This is an unique feature. I haven’t seen or have heard of a Smartphone that has a 2 Pperating Systems preloaded.
Display:- Ubuntu Edge would be sporting a 4.5’’ sapphire crystal touch screen display (which is much better than the corning gorilla glass protection) and it would be having a HD screen resolution of 1720 by 720 pixels.
Processor and the Memory:- This Smartphone would be powered by a latest generation of a processor that would be having more than or equal 2 cores. The memory department would feature a very impressive 4GB RAM (Main Memory) and 128 GB solid state disk.
Battery and camera:- The Ubuntu EDGE Smartphone would be backed up by a silicon anode LI-ON battery and would have an 8MP rear (with features like Flash, Autofocus, etc) and a 2MP front camera.
Other features:- This Smartphone from Canonical LTD would support GPS, 3G, 4G, 2G, EDGE, MP3, MP4, MPG, 3GP, AAC, WMV, WAV, NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi,…etc. It will have multiple sensors, stereo speakers, 3.5mm Audio Jack, USB and HDMI ports.
Release Date and the expected price:- This device is expected to hit out the market in the year 2014 and would have a price around 40000 to 50000 Rs (within 700 to 900 dollars)

By the year 2014, there would be no doubt many new powerful smartphones out in the market and canonical market would surely keep an eye on them.
