Ultrasound is used by doctors, lab technicians at ultrasound clinics and large hospitals. Large sailing vessels (including ships) use it to avoid sea-mounts. Now Ultrasound will charge your mobile device. A LA based startup has managed to implement this technology in a wireless charger.
Named as uBeam, this gadget comes in 2 parts, the transmitter and receiver. The first part has a circuit that converts electric current to ultrasound. It must be plugged into the wall-socket.
Once conversion is complete, the transmitter sends ultrasound waves to the receiver. The 2nd part is plugged into the USB port of a smartphone or a tablet. It produces current from sound waves received from the transmitter.
This current is then supplied to the battery of an attached device. uBeam functions without a charging mat, hence you can use your mobile device even when it’s being charged.
The sound waves produced by the transmitter do not bypass walls or any other hard surface, hence this charger requires an open area to work. This device lacks power supply cord. It supports all types of wall sockets.
The price and launch date of uBeam has not been unveiled yet. The way company has managed to rake in funds and attention from online media, it seems like uBeam will go under production very soon. Along with this gadget, we can expect the company to launch some more cool products. The startup, headed by Ms Perry has plans to sell uBeam to businesses and individual consumers.
