Philips has taken the wraps off its newest black colored flagship phone i866 Aurora in China. This handset comes with high-end specifications and it will compete with BlackBerry Passport and Google Nexus 6. I966 features a quad high-definition IPS touchscreen display. It comes with corning gorilla glass layer to keep the screen protected from dust.
This phone is fitted with a Sony IMX220 20.7 MP Exmor RS sensor. The rear snapper is paired with an LED flash. It includes f1.8 aperture lens and a front facing 8.0 MP camera.
Philips Aurora is enabled with multitasking as it packs a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor of 2250 MHz clock speed. Talking about the preloaded applications, this device uses YunOS version 3.0 OS. This operating system is derived from Android and it sails on Adreno multi-core GPU.
The phone also features some popular apps from the Google play store. It includes a mammoth 32GB of storage space. It is equipped with a 3GB RAM and GPS system. Philips Aurora i966 is 8.2 mm thin handset. It features NFC, Bluetooth, 4G-LTE, and WiFi. It is enabled with Qualcomm quick charge function.
Just like other premium phones, I966 comes with a fingerprint scanner. When it comes to availability and pricing, Philips i966 is available only in China for 3699 yuan (below 40000 in India). It is expected to hit other major markets of Philips in the coming days.
In my perspective, I966 is a handset that doesn’t deserve a price tag of 3700 Yuan. Sony Xperia Z2 has a similar configuration and it was retailing for 45K when Z2 was first introduced.
After its poor market show, Sony had to lower the price of Xperia Z2 to around 25K Rs. If I966 fails, it might get a massive price cut just like Amazon Fire phone, Galaxy S4, S5 and LG G3.
