LG unveils the worlds first LTE smartwatch Urbane

By

MWC event is about to go live next week and LG is already in the news. Last week, LG announced the launch date of its G Flex 2 phone. Today, just before end of this week, LG has revealed the features of its latest smartwatch, Urbane. According to LG, this upcoming watch is its most ambitious project till date.

It uses the same Polythene oled display as G Flex 2 phone. As you know, objects made from plastic are much stronger than glass. Thus the screen of Urbane watch is tough. It wont break even when you accidentally drop the watch on a rigid surface. The display size is 22 millimeters. Its resolution and pixel density of 320 x 320, 244.9 ppi are not bad either. Many LG fans believed that Urbane watch might run on Google’s Android wear OS but this is not the fact. This device will be using LG’s own operating system. This software is believed to be a successor to webOS. Urbane watch features Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2 GHz processor. This CPU handles Android 32 bit smartphone OS smoothly. Thus executing LG wearable platform’s processes wont be a huge task for Snapdragon.

LG Urbane includes a NFC module too. Thus it will support payment systems that are based on near field connectivity technology. This watch supports LTE connectivity. Till this date, no company has ever launched a watch that can transfer data over 4G networks. Apple is working on its first smartwatch and it might be the 2nd wearable device with this feature. LG Urbane packs with a 4GB eMMC storage module. It has a low power version of DDR3 1GB RAM. This watch includes a 700 mAh capacity battery, Bluetooth 4.0, Barometer, speaker, GPS, microphone,…etc. LG has claimed that the Urbane watch is IP67 standard certified. It will sell this wearable device in silver color option.
