Web Presence and Modern Business

8 Flares 8 Flares ×

Establishing a web presence has become increasingly important for businesses of every size. Successful entrepreneurs manage every facet of their companies’ online lives, from website design to social media presence to custom e-mail domains. In part, the need for a web presence is simply one of practical communication. Many modern customers prefer to request customer support online, whether through email or chat functions or by paging through FAQ’s or community knowledge bases. Businesses that lack an online presence run the risk of frustrating customers seeking information about their products, especially in the case of younger users that have come to expect online support. Moreover, businesses that fail to create an online presence will allow others to control the online discussion, essentially deciding not to have a say in how internet users perceive them. Companies that are able to ship their products, or in some cases provide their products online, find distinct advantages in offering their products through company-branded websites that allow customers to peruse their offerings and select the product that best matches their needs.

A web presence has also become a necessity in the sphere of advertising. Web sites offer firms extremely inexpensive opportunities to drive traffic to their products and services, as well as to describe and demonstrate their wares to any extent that they please. Traditional advertising media, like television and magazine ads, are both significantly more costly and more limiting. Firms with complex products can scarcely expect to define the benefits of those products in thirty-second television ads or half-page newspaper spreads. Businesses drive web traffic to their sites through any number of mechanisms, including advertising on social media sites, the use of SEO writing to attract interest through search engines, and the inclusion of their web address in their traditional marketing materials.

Establishing a web presence has never been easier. Companies can create pages for themselves on most social media sites for free, and can secure web domains for their sites quickly and inexpensively through sites like Register.com. These advances in online connectivity mean that a web presence is no longer limited to large corporations and web design experts; even the smallest companies can reap the benefits of online communication and advertising.
