As per Alexa rankings, Facebook ranks #1 (On the basis of network traffic) in almost all parts of the world and it seems like it would remain in the top 10 list for several more years to come. Even after topping the list for many years , Mark Zuckerberg and his team ensures better social networking experiences to its billion+ users by constantly upgrading and updating Facebook with new features …and one such update is the “Introduction of HashTags” (A feature which allows users to directly engage in conversations and find out the people are discussing on the same topic on just clicking the tag containing the # symbol) which in my perspective is the trademark and the most important feature of twitter – A micro blogging site . Most of the twitter fans might be upset on reading the title of the post, but you can’t deny the truth nor ignore the past that Facebook is solely responsible for debacle of many popular social networks like MySpace ,Orkut , FriendSter …etc and am scared that twitter might be added to the list too. If you’ll compare Facebook with twitter you’ll find out that Facebook has upper hand over twitter in many possible ways and if twitter doesn’t innovates and updates itself with new features, it might start losing its grip on its lovers and its followers.
What twitter can expect from this move?
There’s no doubt that out of the billions of Facebook members, many of them hold a twitter account too and would surely be aware of this move of Facebook. Hence , to experience this feature , most of the twitter guys would spend time on Facebook trying out this new feature .If they liked this feature of Facebook , they would surely spend more time exploring the features of Facebook and this can be a bad news for twitter if its users start loving Facebook .
What Facebook can expect from this move?
I think hashtags is very important in the context of marketing on twitter .And due to this feature many marketing professionals stuck to twitter and thus wouldn’t be aware/wouldn’t have used the powerful features of Facebook . With Facebook introducing this feature, more marketing people would be attracted to Facebook and they would consider Facebook a better marketing medium than twitter. Facebook may thus experience an increase in its revenue as marketing professionals might go for the Facebook’s paid advertisement programs.
How to use HashTags?
You need to simply insert a hash (#) symbol before a relevant keyword into your post (on the sites which supports hashtags) important to the context of the topic/subject on which you’ve posted .For example, if I posted a status update/commented on a topic on twitter/Facebook on Google+, I would include #Google+ at the end of my status update/comment.
