What comes to your mind when you hear the word Facebook?
- Chatting with friends?
- Finding new Friends?
- Getting updates from your favorite artist/sportsmen/Music Bands …etc?
….etc. There are N numbers of possible things you can do with
Facebook. Facebook offers all of its high quality services (excluding creating
advertisements or promotional services) free of costs. These services include
- Creating new Events.
- Creating Pages for business.
- Creating Groups for discussions on a relevant topic …. And many more.
The above services can be found in any of the social
networking site you may have heard of .Then what differentiates Facebook from
other social networking sites?
The answer to this question would probably be “The mammoth Billion+
Facebook Users”. Yes you've read it right... Having a billion+ users in a
network makes Facebook a virtual world in which you can do anything from making
a purchase , sell inventory or your personal items to getting knowledge on any subject ….etc.
This is all possible because of Facebook allowing people to create pages, groups to share their knowledge with the connected members and vice verse .Recently, I found An Open group (Group in which anyone can join and make their friends join directly without their approval) having more than 5000 members in which members shared their interview experiences, alive jobs they found in their mail boxes and their problems in getting jobs /getting new jobs .I decided to check the genuineness of this group and I decided to check profiles which were active in the group. To my surprise, most of the profiles which posted jobs were of H.R’s and the jobs they posted were genuine and Moreover, HR’s replied almost every personal query posted in the group. Talking about interview experiences, anyone who had to appear for an interview would request other members (Who had appeared this company’s interview earlier) to post their interview experiences …Do you find the same in Job Portals? …Obviously, the answer would be NO.

You know very well that there may exist 1000’s of similar
groups alive on Facebook and you might be a member of few of these groups .If
you compare active Facebook groups (containing 1000’s of members) with job
portals , do whatever comparisons you want …you’ll always conclude that the Facebook
groups have an upper hand over the job portals .In my perspective if 1000
members seeking Jobs are made to join Facebook group (in which HR’s are posting
Jobs, Replying Personal Queries , Sharing Interview Experiences) and Job
Portals …most of them would rather spend their time in the Facebook groups. I personally
feel that in the coming years you’ll hardly find an active Job Portal.
